Hello Me! Speech and Language Therapy

Clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment of communication difficulties and swallowing difficulties.

Hello Me! Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) is all about you gaining a good understanding of and addressing the specific issues you have, so that you are able to look forward to the best version of you that you can be. Changes to your communication and/or swallowing can really alter how you interact with the world, with your family and with your friends.  Hello Me! SLT will offer you a personalized assessment and therapy package that reflects your goals and wishes for recovery or change.

I specialize in treating adults who are having difficulties with communication and/or swallowing due to a neurological disorder such as stroke, head injury and Parkinson's Disease.

Please note that for help with swallowing difficulties (dysphagia), I will need a signed referral from your doctor (this may be your GP or consultant) before I am able to see you.

Following your free consultation call, we can plan what package of SLT you would like.  Appointments will vary depending on the complexity of the issue.  If appropriate, you may wish to choose online SLT which can have the benefit of being easy to fit around your life.

So what will SLT with Sally look like?

  • We shall start with your free 'consultation call' which is really more of a chat and a chance for you to tell me what you would like, what your concerns are and and what I may be able to offer you.  If appropriate, we can go ahead and book your appointment.
  • Before your appointment, I shall ask you to complete a form to let me know all about you - this may be related to your communication and / or your swallowing.
  • If you are already receiving speech therapy from the NHS or a private speech therapist, that is not a problem. I will ask you for a contact number and permission to discuss your care. As speech therapists, we can work together and provide you with the best possible help to improve your communication skills / support your swallowing.
  • Your first appointment will be for clinical assessment.  I will also wish to assess how the issue is affecting your daily life, what strategies you may be already using to improve your situation and offer you information and support.
  • After the assessment you will receive a report summarizing the results of your assessment.  The report will give details of any goals you have identified and options for therapy.
  • We will then discuss your results and agree a plan of action. Therapy will be designed to meet your individual needs and your personal goals.
  • Advice, support and training is available for family, friends and care workers.  This means that everyone is working together and enabling you to make progress in all environments.
  • Communication therapy is usually arranged in a block of 6 to 10 sessions depending on your individual needs and reflecting your personal goals.  Further swallowing input usually varies between 2 to 4 sessions to reflect your individual needs and goals. Sometimes swallowing issues can need only one assessment session with advice and perhaps a review.
  • At the end of your block of therapy, we shall review your progress and your goals.  You may require no more therapy, or a new block of therapy may be agreed or you may return for a follow-up appointment in a few months time.
